U.S.-Ecuador Trade Facts

Ecuador is currently our 40th largest goods trading partner with $15.7 billion in total (two way) goods trade during 2011. Goods exports totaled $6.1 billion; Goods imports totaled $9.6 billion. The U.S. goods trade deficit with Ecuador was $3.6 billion in 2011.

Exports

Ecuador was the United States' 42nd largest goods export market in 2011.

U.S. goods exports to Ecuador in 2011 were $6.1 billion, up 12.0% ($648 million) from 2010, and up 484% from 2000.

The top export categories (2-digit HS) in 2011 were: Mineral Fuel (oil) ($2.3 billion), Machinery ($1.1 billion), Electrical Machinery ($427 million), and Plastic ($290 million), and Vehicles (256 million).

U.S. exports of agricultural products to Ecuador totaled $340 million in 2011. Leading categories include: soybean meal ($86 million), coarse grains ($52 million), and wheat ($32 million).

Imports

Ecuador was the United States' 35th largest supplier of goods imports in 2011.

U.S. goods imports from Ecuador totaled $9.6 billion in 2011, a 29.1% increase ($2.2 billion) from 2010, and up 335% from 2000.

The five largest import categories in 2011 were: Mineral Fuel (crude) ($7.5 billion) Fish and Seafood (shrimp and prawns) ($673 million), Edible Fruit and Nuts (bananas, plantains) ($511 million), cocoa ($247 million), and Live Trees and Plants (cut flowers-roses) ($149 million).

U.S. imports of agricultural products from Ecuador totaled $1.1 billion in 2011. Leading categories include: bananas and plantains ($465 million), cocoa beans ($235 million), and nursery products (cut flowers) ($149 million).

Trade Balance

The U.S. goods trade deficit with Ecuador was $3.6 billion in 2011, a 74.6% increase ($1.5 billion) over 2010.
