MARC DURANT
Marc Durant was born and grew up in New York City. After distinguishing himself at Cornell University and Harvard Law School, he served as law clerk to United States District (later Circuit) Judge Walter K. Stapleton. Marc spent the following three years as a corporate litigation associate in the Washington, D.C. and Philadelphia offices of Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis.
In 1975 Marc was offered positions as an Assistant United States Attorney in Manhattan and Philadelphia. During the next six years, he tried numerous criminal jury trials and rapidly rose through the ranks, earning promotions, distinguished service awards and commendations. Marc served in several supervisory positions, including Deputy Chief of the Criminal Division.
As an Assistant United States Attorney, Marc was the chief prosecutor in the nationally publicized “Move” cases. He played an important role in the “Abscam” prosecutions of federal and local elected officials charged with bribery and corruption in an F.B.I. undercover sting operation. Marc prosecuted other major, noteworthy cases as well.
In 1981 Marc entered private practice. He has tried more than a dozen federal jury trials exceeding one month in duration, both civil and criminal. Several trials required in excess of three months to complete. Marc has been chief trial counsel in R.I.C.O., securities, antitrust and class action cases. Since entering private practice, he has tried dozens of highly varied cases. He has been especially active in a wide variety of securities cases, civil, criminal, and regulatory. Because Marc is experienced in civil, criminal and regulatory matters, he has handled so-called parallel proceedings. These are matters, such as a major securities investigation for example, which result in grand jury investigations, criminal indictments, civil actions and S.E.C. as well as state regulatory proceedings. They lead to multiple types of complex cases and require lawyers experienced in a number of different arenas.
Marc has long been active lecturing and teaching. He is an Adjunct Professor of Law at Temple University Law School and a faculty member of the National Institute of Trial Advocacy. As an Assistant United States Attorney, he was an instructor in Prosecution Trial Advocacy at the United States Attorney General’s Advocacy Institute in Washington, D.C. Marc has authored law review articles and served as an Editor of the Harvard International Law Journal. Recently, Marc has been involved with international financial criminal investigations and cases. As a result, he has been lecturing to European Union and foreign attorneys about international extraterritorial jurisdiction and developments in this new, growing area.
Marc has received a number of honors, awards and commendations, both as a federal prosecutor and in private practice. He is Martindale-Hubbel Peer Review Rated at AV Preeminent (5.0 out of 5), the highest possible rating. He has also been repeatedly elected by his peers as a “Super Lawyer” (top 5% of all attorneys).
Marc is admitted to practice in New York, Pennsylvania and many federal trial and appellate courts, including the United States Supreme Court.
